Starting off our list at number 10 we have Gina Rinehart. Gina’s net worth stands at a whopping $13.1 BILLION. An Aussie from “down unda”, she is by far the wealthiest woman in Australia. Now, she made her billions in the mining industry, and is the daughter of iron-ore explorer Lang Hancock. Inheriting the lucrative family business from her father, she began managing the "Hancock Prospecting Group" in 1992. Yet, while Gina is one of the most successful people on the planet, in the past year alone she’s lost over $2 billion. Primarily due to the pandemic, it is the world’s economic slowdown that has ultimately led to a decrease in demand for iron ore, which is the staple product coming out of her mines. Regardless, Gina still has an incredibly impressive income, and we are sure that if she uses the business smarts she was raised with, she will soon have Hancock Prospecting Group back in the black!

Next up at number 9 is Zhong Huijian. Hailing from China, Zhong’s net worth currently stands at $14.6 billion. Now, while she is not the wealthiest person in China, she really isn’t too far off! Interestingly, Zhong made her billions in the pharmaceuticals industry and is the chairwoman of the Chinese drug-production company Hansoh Pharmaceuticals. For those of you not familiar with Hansoh, it is most notable for producing oncological, psychoactive, and anti-diabetic drugs among others.  Yet, unlike Gina, Zhong has actually increased her net worth this year.  With pharmaceuticals being on the upswing thanks to the pandemic, her company’s stock rose an impressive 10% between January and March. Yet, Zhong does not act alone, as she is married to Sun Piaoyang, a fellow billionaire who is the chairman of Jiangsu Hengrui Medicine. When you consider the immense power of both their pharmaceutical companies put together, it’s no surprise that the two are pretty influential!

At number 8 we have a woman with a very recognizable last name: Laurene Powell Jobs.  Reportedly, Laurene has a net worth of $16.4 billion, and made her billions off the coattails of Apple and Disney. Now, we say coattails because Laurene is the surviving widow of Steve Jobs, the famous co-founder of Apple. However, that doesn’t mean that Laurene doesn’t deserve praise in her own right. That’s because Laurene currently runs Emerson Collective, which is a philanthropic company that she founded in 2016. Working for a wide range of different causes in a wide range of different communities, it is great to see that Laurene prioritizes helping others with her massive wealth!

Number 7 is Susanne Klatten.  Susanne has a net worth of $16.8 billion. Hailing from the country of Germany, Susanne made her billions selling something that many readers may use or dream of using: luxury cars. Specifically, Susanne made the majority of her money through her association with BMW, and has also made sizable sums with her work in the pharmaceutical business. Now, Susanne is as rich as she is thanks to her being the heiress to BMW. However, her net worth has decreased by a staggering 20% amid the global quarantine due to lack of market for new vehicles. However, this blow has been softened a little bit thanks to Susanne being the chairwoman of Altana, which is a large pharmaceutical company that manufactures specialty chemicals. As a result of this more profitable business propping up her fortunes, she was luckily able to have her name on this list!  We’re almost halfway there!

Sitting at number 6 is another Chinese billionaire: Yang Huiyan. Yang’s wealth puts her in a whole new league, as her net worth is over $20.3 billion. But how did she make her billions, you may ask? The simple answer: Real Estate. Now, Yang may be only 38 but that has not stopped her from climbing the ranks of billionaires on this list. Most notably, she owns 57% of the wealthy Hong Kong based real estate developer Country Garden.  Originally founded by her father, she is the heiress to the company’s fortunes, and we wouldn’t be surprised if she takes on an even higher share in the company in the near future. Now, what’s interesting about Country Gardens is that it's been at the helm in developing food serving stations in Wuhan, where the outbreak of the pandemic began. With the aim of this being to help feed the medical workers stationed there, it is an extremely kind gesture by the company. And on our end, we just hope that Yang continues this selfless work via Country Garden even after the pandemic is over!

We’re down to the Top 5 wealthiest women in the world. And, at number 5, we have another woman with a recognizable last name: Jacqueline Mars. Now, while she has no relation to the singer Bruno Mars, what she does have a relation to is Mars chocolate. Currently having a net worth of about $24.7 billion, it is so high almost solely due to her work with the famous candy company Mars. Now, Jacqueline is able to really “milk” this chocolate company due to her having a 33.33% share in Mars. And with Mars offering delectable desserts such as Milky Way bars, we’re not surprised that she’s raking in big bucks. However, it turns out that Mars doesn’t just produce candy. Although this is not widely known, it turns out that Mars actually also has a large pet food segment as well. And with Mars being the creators of recognizable brands such as Pedigree, Whiskas, and Royal Canin, it's no surprise that this has been a profitable venture for the company as well!

In fact, she became a billionaire just last year when she inherited a large stake of her family company Koch Industries. Coming from her late husband David who passed in 2019, she now owns nearly 50% of this multi-billion dollar company! However, that’s not to say that she hasn’t done any work on her own, as she has been quite successful over the years in, of all things, the fashion industry.

At number 2 we have the French beauty queen herself, Francoise Bettencourt Meyers. Coming in at a net worth of $48.9 billion, she is of cosmetics thanks to her stake in cosmetic company L’Oreal. However, Francoise is not the founder; instead, that title belongs to her grandfather Eugene Schueller. Yet, she has the fortune of being Eugene’s granddaughter, and acquired the company’s fortune after her mother died. Now, Francoise’s fortune has unfortunately decreased over the past year due to the pandemic making cosmetics pretty useless. However Francoise didn’t let this drop in revenue stop her from helping those in need, as in March L’Oreal announced that the cosmetics factories would be altered in order to help produce hand sanitizer. Allowing the company to help others and make money in the process, this was truly an ingenious move by Francoise!

Finally, the number one slot. The wealthiest woman in the world. The one, the only… Alice Walton! Now, Alice’s net worth is astonishing, sitting at a little over $54.4 billion. Hailing from the USA, Alice is wealthy due to her involvement not in luxury goods, but in very affordable items. And for those of you that were wondering, this company is Walmart! You see, Alice is the only daughter of Walmart founder Sam Walton, which is what earned her a number one spot on this list. And although she wasn’t in the number one spot last year, she was able to propel her way to this coveted title by virtue of her net worth increasing by 23%! Now, while she does not have an executive position at Walmart, Alice helps run the Walton Family Foundation. In particular, this foundation gives money to charter schools in order to help them stay open and renovate their facilities, with over $300 million being planned to be donated in the near future.
